American Idol went off the air a year ago. Despite its explosion onto the scene in 2002, the ratings in the past few years continued to decline. Gone were the days of Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. Gone were the days of Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson.
It was one of the first shows of its kind in the United States, but after American Idol debuted, numerous others followed. Unfortunately for the trendsetter, other shows like The X Factor and The Voice blew past it. At its peak, American Idol had 38 million viewers for its season 2 finale. By season 14, it only had 8 million viewers for the same episode.
Now, for whatever reason, Fox has decided to try to revive its one-time hit. The funny part is that it’s already off to a negative start. At least judging by Twitter reactions, nobody really cares.
