Spears’ dad Jamie, who is her conservator and therefore manages her financial affairs, placed a notice at the Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday to announce that the parties had settled their dispute.
Lutfi first sued Spears and her family in 2009, saying that her father hit him the year prior. He also alleged that her mother Lynne‘s book Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World contained libelous statements about him.
As far as Britney herself’s supposed sins, Lutfi claimed she owed him money. He said she and her entire family were trying to pin the blame on him for her mental breakdown in 2008 (remember when she shaved her head?). He argued that he was not the problem; instead, Spears’ drug use was what made her go off the deep end.
Lutfi argues that he tried to get the “Toxic” singer clean, but her family says he was the one providing her with drugs in the first place. Her situation ended up getting so extreme that she lost custody of her children and wound up sleeping in a parking lot.
The suit dragged on and on, and finally in November of 2012, a judge threw out whole thing. Lutfi appealed, however, and the case was reinstated. Now nearly four years later, they had a trial scheduled to take place in October, but the settlement was reached before either side had to step into court.
The terms of the settlement have yet to be revealed. TMZ, however, had a source that said the settlement was somewhere in the “low six figures.” If they had not settled, the pop star would have had to pay at least $500,000 in legal fees.
Regardless of what really went down when Britney Spears was dealing with what seemed to be the most turbulent time of her life, she’s got to be happy it’s all in the past now. Plus, the “low six figure” pay-out is a drop in the bucket compared to the massive fortune she’s accumulated.
