The song is a actually a Mark Ronson song featuring Bruno Mars (though Mars does receive songwriting credit). Ronson, the one-time Amy Winehouse producer, has a long-time working relationship with Bruno Mars and produced Mars’ #1 single “Locked Out Of Heaven.”
“Uptown Funk” entered The Billboard top 20 and the song has been getting plenty of attention – Adam Levine even had one of his team members perform the song on The Voice and Ronson/Mars killed it on SNL a couple weeks back.
“Uptown Funk” draws heavily on the 80s era funk and style – think Paula Abdul, Arsenio Hall and The Fly Girls. This is a big departure musically and stylistically from “Locked Out Of Heaven,” which had more a rock/new wave feel and could have even been mistaken for a Police song (Sting performed the song with Mars at The Grammy’s in 2013.
Either way, the song is a party and we’re looking forward to more Ronson-Mars collaborations.
