Despite fan backlash Kanye West has been really vocal about supporting the new president. He even met with Trump at Trump Tower back in December.
When questioned about what they discussed, Kanye posted a series of tweets explaining. One said, “I wanted to meet with Trump today to discuss multicultural issues.” He then added, “These issues included bullying, supporting teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago.”
Then Trump’s inauguration rolled around. Many artists were invited to perform, and many of those artists declined from the start or backed out later. Even the Bruce Springsteen tribute group the B Street Band bailed out.
If Trump could have gotten anyone to perform, however, it seemed like Kanye West would have been up for it. Unfortunately for Kanye, he wasn’t even invited.
One Trump staffer, Tom Barrack Jr., said it was because the inauguration was going to be “traditionally American,” so they didn’t ask Kanye to perform. A lot of people took this to be a slam against Kanye’s skin color.
