Miley Cyrus Reinvented: Billboard Music Awards Performance Leaves Singer in Tears

Where has this version of Miley Cyrus been hiding? The singer stripped down at the Billboard Music Awards over the weekend–and not in her usual sense of ditching as much clothing as possible. Instead, she stripped away the theatrics and gave a raw, powerful performance.

This is the best Miley Cyrus has looked in years!

Cyrus performed her new song “Malibu” on television for the first time ever at the Billboard Music Awards. This is her first new song since 2015 when she launched the album Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz. That album was loaded up with psychedelic atmosphere, but “Malibu” is pretty different from that.

“Malibu” is more of a throwback to her country roots. It’s also partially a tribute to her newly rekindled relationship with Liam Hemsworth. “I never would’ve believed you if three years ago you told me I’d be here writing this song,” she said. “[People are] going to talk about me if I come out of a restaurant with Liam. So why not put the power back in my relationship and say, ‘This is how I feel?'”

Her look for the show was pretty natural as well. She sported long, wavy locks and natural glowy makeup along with a simple outfit of shorts and an off-the-shoulder top.

By the end of her performance, Miley Cyrus was in tears, most noticeably on the line, “It’s a brand new start.” This has obvious meaning for her, as she recently admitted she’s working on getting clean and has avoided smoking marijuana for three weeks now.

On a lighter note, her sister Noah introduced Miley to the stage. She mentioned its her first time performing “in years with pants on.” The fact that they are already at the joking stage with these antics is definitely a good thing.
