Selena Gomez Undergoes Kidney Transplant with Help of BFF Francia Raisa

A friend in need is a friend, indeed! Selena Gomez has been pretty open about her struggles with lupus and depression, but now she opened up about another challenge she recently faced. And, boy, was this one a doozy. It turns out she needed a new kidney, and her best friend was there to step up.

Gomez revealed the news via an Instagram post.

“I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of,” she wrote. “So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health.”

She added that she was anxious to begin sharing her life with her fans once more. “I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you,” she wrote. “Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery.”

So who was the friend who gave her a kidney? None other than actress Francia Raisa, best known for her role on The Secret Life of the American Teenager.
