Former MTV Chief Van Toffler recently did an interview with the Hollywood Reporter. Though it focused mostly on his career success as an entertainment executive, he also had some interesting comments about a certain pop star.
At this point, it’s safe to say everyone knows about that time Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift’s VMA acceptance speech. You know, that time he leapt on stage and said Beyonce deserved to win.
However, there are some details from that evening that remained under wraps. For example, the tear fest Kanye’s actions caused. When the Hollywood Reporter asked Toffler what his favorite VMAs story is, here’s how he responded:
When Kanye walked up onstage with Taylor that year, it turned out that Taylor had to go onstage to do her song five minutes later. I ran out of the truck to see that everything was all right, and Taylor and her mom were crying hysterically. I’m not always wonderful with emotions. I didn’t know what to say. Then I went backstage, and Beyonce was crying, too.
Yikes! Of course we feel sorry for Taylor Swift over this stupid interruption. But we also can’t help wondering why this news is coming out now. Swift had a rough year in the PR department, so maybe she needed some pity? We wouldn’t be surprised if she had enough influence to make sure this info made it into the world when she wanted it to.
Given her feuds with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian (where she looks guilty of lying) and her feud with Katy Perry (where she looks like the one who isn’t trying to make amends), she could use all the help she could get.
