The end of the Taylor Swift groping trial has finally come. Did DJ David Mueller really think he stood a chance?
For those who haven’t been following the trial, here’s the lowdown: Taylor Swift accused David Mueller of grabbing her butt at a meet and greet, and the accusation cost him his job. The two sued each other, and the case finally made it to court this month.
The judge dismissed Mueller’s claims against Swift right away. Now a jury has decided to rule in Swift’s favor on her claims of sexual assault. It took the jurors four hours to come to a verdict.
As punishment, Mueller is required to pay one dollar in damages. Swift was not bringing the case for financial purposes, but instead to encourage other victims of sexual assault to speak up.
“I acknowledge the privilege that I benefit from in life, in society and in my ability to shoulder the enormous cost of defending myself in a trial like this,” Taylor Swift said in a statement. “My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard. Therefore, I will be making donations in the near future to multiple organizations that help sexual assault victims defend themselves.”
