Billy Bob Thornton Wasn’t ‘Good Enough’ for Angelina Jolie

It seems like rather odd timing for Billy Bob Thornton to be finally speaking out about his former relationship with Angelina Jolie given her current divorce drama, but nonetheless, speak out he did.

Remember this weirdness?

In a rather eclectic interview with GQ, Billy Bob Thornton didn’t try to hide anything. He delved into how he gets annoyed when people ask for signed DVDs after his band plays, how he has a rare blood type that restricts his diet and how he’s terrified of silverware and Komodo dragons.

At this point in his career, he’s not afraid of hiding who he is, but when it comes to relationships, he’s a little more skittish about acknowledging that he’s now been married six times. Billy Bob Thornton wanted to avoid making his current love Connie just a number, and he solidified their love by tattooing her name down his spine.

However, he’s also still got a couple tattoos dedicated to the woman who came before, Angelina Jolie. After showing off the tats, the interview reminds everybody that these two were the couple who had no shame about when and where they had sex and wore vials of each others blood around their necks.

Sounds like a match made in heaven, right? So why the split?

“I never felt good enough for her,” Billy Bob Thornton confessed. “And I’m real uncomfortable around rich and important people.” While Angelina was getting invited to parties and going to the U.N. or whichever humanitarian effort she was working on at the time, Thornton wasn’t about to change. “I like how I am,” he concluded.

We can’t help but wonder if these comments shed any light on the Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie split. If anyone could keep pace with Jolie, it was probably Pitt, but what happens if even the ultimate A-lister wasn’t “good enough” for her? Knowing her, she’ll continue paving her own way regardless.
