Kanye West’s mother Donda passed away in 2007 because of complications arising from plastic surgery. Donda was a huge influence in Kanye’s life, raising Kanye on her own and helping him to get his career off the ground. She even moved with him to Los Angeles to act as his manager, giving up a career as a professor at Chicago State University. Unfortunately, it was just that move that made Kanye blame himself for her death.
In a recent interview, when the rapper was asked about what he’s had to sacrifice for his success, he stated, “My mom. If I had never moved to L.A. she’d be alive. I don’t want to go far into it because it will bring me to tears.”
His cousin Lawrence Franklin also recently stated that Donda’s death was a beginning of a decline for Kanye West, and that he lost the only person he could truly trust.
