Lauryn Hill Announces Club Dates For Acoustic ‘Small Axe’ Tour

SONY DSCAccording to Rolling Stone, Lauryn Hill will hit the road in February for a string of small, intimate performances. Dubbed “Small Axe: Acoustic Performance Series,” the two-week trek will spend two nights at Washington D.C.’s Howard Theatre before heading north for five shows in New York.

Tickets for the gigs, each of which will only seat between 250 and 500 people, will go on sale January 10th at noon EST through Hill’s official site. In addition to regular tickets, fans can also upgrade to a VIP package that includes a meet-and-greet with Hill – photo with the singer and autograph included – plus a limited edition poster designed by Hill and a souvenir tour laminate.

“Small Axe” is likely a reference to the Bob Marley song of the same name; Marley’s son Rohan is the father of five of Hill’s children, and Hill frequently performs the reggae legend’s music live.

Lauryn Hill “Doo-Wop”

Last August, Hill unveiled a rare new track titled “Black Rage” that was inspired by the death of Michael Brown.

The Small Axe performances will be among Hill’s first concerts since her tumultuous Voodoo Music Experience appearance in New Orleans on November 1st. At that festival, Hill had her 6 p.m. performance cut short after she showed up 40 minutes late for her slot. However, the former Fugees singer made amends by performing a full set at the festival later that night. The notoriously tardy Hill also delayed her Bonnaroo performance by nearly a half-hour.
