Warped Tour 2016 Lineup: Hot or Ho-Hum?

Though pop, hip-hop, and EDM have taken over world, the Vans Warped Tour is chugging into its 21st year. On Monday, the tour behemoth officially announced its lineup for 2016.

Less Than Jake Warped Tour

Less Than Jake will be a headliner at Warped Tour 2016.

Pop-punk favorites New Found Glory, Less Than Jake and Mayday Parade will headline the tour. Rounding out the lineup will be 3Oh!3, Four Year Strong, Good Charlotte, We The Kings, Yellowcard and dozens more.

The list seems a bit on the “been there, done that” side. Perhaps being a veteran with 20 years of touring expertise has allowed Warped Tour to get a bit too comfortable. Past years seemed to encourage more music discovery, with a slightly wider smattering of genres and some pop culture heavy-hitters. Here are some of my favorite Warped Tour performers of the past:

  • Foxy Shazam

Foxy Shazam is not for the tame of heart. I stumbled across the band at a show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, and after watching singer Eric Nally eat lit cigarettes onstage, I felt like we really bonded. The group hit up Warped Tour in 2011.

  • This Providence

This Providence may have only played at one tour in 2009, but, well, I was in their music video so I’m gonna make this all about me. Hint: I’m the blonde girl crying with the telephone.

  • Ludo

I first stumbled across Ludo thanks to my older sister who was blasting “Love Me Dead.” Once I found out they wrote a rock opera (Broken Bride), it was love at first listen. The band hit up three Warped Tours, from 2006-2008.

Warped Tour could greatly benefit from adding some one-offs to their repertoire instead of mainly featuring bands that have played on the tour on and off for the last decade. Past years saw performances from everyone from Billy Idol and No Doubt to The Damned and Descendants.

Tour dates for the 2016 Warped Tour extend from mid-June to mid-August, and tickets are on sale now. Check out the rest of the lineup here. Stay tuned for updates on both the Warped Tour Facebook and Twitter pages.
